Redact Document (Motion)

  • request permission to make the redactions and file the redacted document with the court; and
  • request the clerk restrict public access to the original document


Service of Motion


Moving party must serve the redaction request (motion) on:

  • the debtor;
  • any individual whose personal identifiers have been exposed;
  • case trustee (if any); and
  • U.S. Trustee


Closed Cases  


It is not necessary to reopen a case when the sole purpose is to file a request to redact personal identifiers from the case record.  
Effective December 1, 2014 -  When a motion to reopen is filed, a reopening fee is not collected when the sole reason for reopening is redaction purposes.


Redaction Fee  


Effective December 1, 2014 a $25.00 redaction fee is required.  
The fee is applicable to both open and closed cases and is due upon the filing of the motion.
The court may waive the  fee in appropriate circumstances.


Note: The court or the clerk does not make redactions to the affected record.
